Introduced earlier than expected, the 8-core Mac Pro made its way on Apple’s front page today. Rumor had it that the machine would be unveiled at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) trade show on Sunday, April 15. However, with the Apple Store being down early this morning we knew something was up. Something big. Hello 8-core Mac Pro!
Here’s what Apple says about the machine:
“Opt for the 8-core Mac Pro and you get the power of two Quad-Core Intel Xeon “Clovertown” processors running at 3.0GHz. Or choose a quad-core Mac Pro featuring two Dual-Core Intel Xeon “Woodcrest” processors and decide how fast they fly: 2.0GHz, 2.66GHz, or 3.0GHz. At 3.0GHz, the quad-core Mac Pro runs up to 2x faster than the Power Mac G5 Quad.1.”
Base price of $2499 for the 2.66GHz Quad-core model.
Add an additional $1498 for the 8-core 3GHz model.
As if releasing the 8-core Mac Pro wasn’t enough, Apple discreetly discounted their Cinema displays.
20″ – $599, previously $699
23″ – $899, previously $999
30″ – $1799, previously $1999

Wow, for the price of the processor upgrade you could go to Italy. I suppose people have their priorities though, and if you’re making a feature-length movie, the extra horsepower could help out a lot. $1500 though! Having a tough time wrapping my head around it, just get 2 MacPros for that price. Ok, hope you are having a fab. weekend.
Thank You
